Talesun Solar Panels Review (2026): Are They Any Good?
Talesun is a Chinese panel maker that’s been around since the Feed-in Tariff years. Some British roofs still carry its 250W panels from the early 2010s. Today it makes modern N-type TOPCon panels, it’s on BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list, and its parent company has been through a restructuring that left a state-owned group in control. This review covers the current BIPRO 450W panel, efficiency, the warranty, where Talesun panels are made, prices, the older panels you might already have, and how Talesun compares with Jinko and Astronergy.

Who are Talesun?
Talesun, full name Suzhou Talesun Solar Technologies, is a Chinese maker of solar cells and panels based in Changshu, near Suzhou in Jiangsu province. It’s sometimes called Zhongli Talesun after its parent company. It started out making the polycrystalline and monocrystalline panels that filled British roofs in the Feed-in Tariff years, and now makes N-type TOPCon panels.
What matters for a UK homeowner:
- It’s a mid-sized maker. Talesun isn’t in the world’s top ten by panels shipped. A copy of BloombergNEF’s first-quarter 2026 Tier 1 list ranks it 16th of 40 by capacity.
- It’s been around a long time. It built a factory in Thailand in 2015 and was on the Tier 1 list as early as 2018, according to the company.
- It sells mainly outside the UK. Most current Talesun panels for sale online are listed by US and Asian retailers. We found very few UK sellers, and no UK office.
In the UK you’re more likely to find Talesun panels already on a roof than on a new quote.
Who owns Talesun now?
Talesun is a subsidiary of Jiangsu Zhongli Group, a company listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange. Zhongli had a difficult few years:
- Its performance and revenue had been falling since 2018, according to a 2023 trade report.
- In January 2023, a creditor applied to a court in Suzhou for Zhongli to be restructured.
- In August 2023, Zhongli signed an agreement of intent with an investor, Changshu Guangsheng New Energy, part of the state-owned Xiamen C&D group.
- By March 2026, Changshu Guangsheng was Zhongli’s controlling shareholder, according to a financial news report. The same report described changes to three senior management roles, which an insider called a management reshuffle.
What it means for you: a panel warranty is only as good as the company behind it. Being part of a state-owned group should make Talesun more secure than it was a few years ago. But it’s still worth choosing an installer with a strong insurance-backed workmanship warranty, which protects you whatever happens to the panel maker (solar panel warranties).
Where are Talesun solar panels made?
In China and Thailand. Talesun’s main factories are in Jiangsu and Shandong provinces in China, including its home base in Changshu and a large panel plant in Zibo. It has made cells and panels at a plant in the Thai-China Industrial Park in Rayong, Thailand, since 2015.
Factories in Thailand and other parts of South-East Asia are common for Chinese panel makers that sell to the US. For a UK buyer, the country on the box matters less than the panel’s testing record, the warranty and who stands behind it (best solar panels UK).
The Talesun range in 2026
| Series | Cells | Power | Size and weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BIPRO TM7G54M | N-type TOPCon, 108 half-cells, glass both sides, all black | 430–455W | 1,722 × 1,134 × 30mm, 24.5kg | Homes. The current home panel |
| TM3G48M | N-type TOPCon, 96 larger half-cells, glass both sides | About 440–450W | Not confirmed | Homes |
| BIPRO and BISTAR (older PERC) | Mono PERC, half-cells, single or double glass | About 380–670W | Varies | Older home and commercial systems |
| TP7G72M / TD7G72M | Mono PERC, 144 half-cells, bifacial | About 540–550W | 2,285 × 1,134 × 35mm | Commercial roofs and solar farms |
For a house, you want the BIPRO TM7G54M. The “TM” codes are the N-type TOPCon panels. Codes starting “TP” or “TD” are the older PERC panels. N-type TOPCon cells are more efficient, cope better with heat and age more slowly than PERC (types of solar panels, panel types compared).
Talesun model codes decoded
Take TM7G54M-450. As far as we can tell from the datasheets:
- T is Talesun. The second letter shows the generation: P and D on older PERC panels, M on the current N-type range.
- 54 is the number of full cells, cut into 108 halves. 60 and 72 are the older 60 and 72-cell sizes, and 48 means 96 halves of a larger cell.
- The final M means monocrystalline. A P at the end, as in TP660P, means polycrystalline.
- 450 is the power in watts.
Talesun solar panels datasheet: where to find it
Talesun publishes datasheets on its website, and retailers link to them on product pages. Make sure the datasheet matches the full model code on your quote, not just the wattage.
Talesun 450W BIPRO TOPCon: a closer look
The BIPRO TM7G54M is the Talesun panel you’d be offered for a house today. These figures come from retailer listings of the datasheet:
| Talesun BIPRO TM7G54M | Figure |
|---|---|
| Power range | 430–455W |
| Efficiency | About 22% at 430W to about 23% at 450W |
| Cells | N-type TOPCon, 108 half-cells, 16 busbars |
| Build | Glass front and back, black frame, all-black look |
| Size | 1,722 × 1,134 × 30mm |
| Weight | 24.5kg |
| Open-circuit voltage (Voc) | About 39.3V (445W) |
| Product warranty | 15 years in most US listings |
| Power guarantee | 30 years. Under 1% lost in year one and under 0.4% a year after |
The size is the standard home panel size, 1,722mm by 1,134mm, so it fits the same roof space as most rivals (solar panel sizes, how many panels fit your roof). At 24.5kg it’s on the heavy side, because of the second sheet of glass. That’s fine for almost any tiled roof.
Bifacial means the back of the panel can also generate from reflected light. On a house roof, where the panel sits a few centimetres above the tiles, that adds next to nothing, so don’t pay extra for it. The real benefit is the second sheet of glass, which protects the cells better than a plastic backsheet (bifacial solar panels).
Our scores
Our rating
Talesun BIPRO TM7G54M
★★★½☆ A good modern panel that’s hard to find in the UK
The bottom line: a sound panel from a Tier 1 maker. The short product warranty and thin UK presence keep it below the big names.
Get my Talesun price →Talesun solar panel efficiency and real-world UK output
The BIPRO TM7G54M runs from about 22% efficiency at 430W to about 23% at 450W. That’s in line with the mainstream at 22–23%, and a step behind the best panels at about 24–25% (most efficient solar panels). It’s a big step up from Talesun’s own older panels, which were about 15–17% efficient.
In practice, one 450W Talesun panel on a south-facing UK roof generates roughly 410–460kWh a year depending on where you live. Nine of them make a 4kW system producing about 3,650–4,150kWh a year, worth roughly £700–£795 a year at October 2026 electricity prices if you use half of it at home. You’d get almost the same from any mainstream panel of the same wattage (solar panel efficiency, solar panel output, payback).

| Cover | Talesun BIPRO TM7G54M | Typical rival (Jinko, JA, Astronergy) |
|---|---|---|
| Product warranty | 15 years in most US listings. One listing says 25 years | Usually 25 years |
| Power guarantee | 30 years. Under 1% lost in year one and under 0.4% a year after, about 87% at year 30 | 30 years, about 87–89% at the end |
| Who backs it | Talesun, part of Jiangsu Zhongli Group. No UK office found | The maker, usually with a UK or European office |
The power guarantee matches the big brands. The product warranty, which covers defects in the panel itself, is shorter: 15 years against the 25 years most rivals now offer. We couldn’t find the UK or European terms, so ask your installer for the warranty document that applies to the panel you’re buying.
Older Talesun panels had shorter cover still. The 60-cell panels of the 2010s came with a 10-year product warranty, and later PERC panels with 12 years.
As with any panel, the manufacturer’s warranty normally covers the panel, not the labour to swap it. To protect yourself:
- Choose an installer that has traded for several years and is MCS-certified.
- Make sure the workmanship guarantee is insurance-backed.
- Keep the datasheet, the warranty document and the panel serial numbers with your handover pack.
- Remember that panels rarely fail. The inverter is far more likely to need attention (how long inverters last, solar inverters explained).
Tier 1 and testing
Tier 1
Yes. Tier 1 is BloombergNEF’s list of panel makers whose products banks will finance on large projects. It measures financial standing, not quality. Talesun says it was on the list for all four quarters of 2025, and it appears at 16th on the third-party copy of the first-quarter 2026 list we checked.
Independent testing
Talesun says it was named a Top Performer in Kiwa PVEL’s 2023 PV Module Reliability Scorecard, the best-known independent test of how panels hold up over time. We couldn’t confirm any later years. Rivals such as Astronergy and Jinko have been named regularly.
World ranking
Talesun isn’t among the world’s ten biggest panel makers by shipments. In 2025 the top ten, according to InfoLink, were Jinko, LONGi, Trina, JA Solar, Tongwei, Astronergy, GCL, DMEGC, Canadian Solar and a group sharing tenth place.
Where we rank it
In our rankings Talesun sits below the big names. The panel is modern and the company is Tier 1, but the shorter product warranty, the limited UK presence and the recent restructuring count against it. See best solar panels UK for the full list.
Talesun solar panels price
We couldn’t find a current UK price for Talesun’s home panel when we checked in October 2026. The few UK listings we found were for older panels, and out of stock. In the US, the 445–450W BIPRO is listed at about $173–$204 a panel, but US prices tell you little about UK prices, because tariffs, shipping and warranty terms all differ. The same goes for prices you’ll see quoted for India, Pakistan or Australia.
Mainstream home panels from Jinko, JA and Trina typically cost UK installers £70–£120 each. A Talesun panel should cost no more than that. Panels are only about a sixth of the cost of a fitted system, so the brand doesn’t change the total much. Typical UK installed prices with any mainstream panel:
| System | Panels (450W) | Typical fitted price | With a 5kWh battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3kW | 7 | £4,500–£6,000 | £7,500–£9,500 |
| 4kW | 9 | £5,500–£7,500 | £9,000–£11,500 |
| 5kW | 11 | £6,500–£8,500 | — |
| 6kW | 13–14 | £7,000–£9,500 | — |
A quote using Talesun panels should sit in the lower half of those ranges. When a panel is fitted to a home as part of an installation, it’s charged at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 (VAT on solar panels). For the full breakdown, see solar panel cost, the 4kW solar system guide, the cheapest solar panels and our solar panel deals page.
Older Talesun panels: 245W to 540W
Talesun panels were sold in the UK during the Feed-in Tariff years, so some homes still have them. If you’ve bought a house with Talesun panels, or you’re looking at second-hand ones, this is roughly what the common models are:
| Older Talesun panel | Type | Size | Key figures |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP660P, 240–265W (incl. 245W, 250 watt and TP660P 255) | Polycrystalline, 60 cells | 1,640 × 990 × 40mm, 20kg | About 15.7% at 255W. Voc 37.7V, Vmp 30.6V at 255W |
| TP660M, 240–265W | Monocrystalline, 60 cells | 1,640 × 990 × 40mm, 20kg | About 16.3% at 265W. Voc 38.1V at 265W |
| TP672P, 300–330W (“24V” panels) | Polycrystalline, 72 cells | 1,960 × 992mm | About 17% at 330W. Voc 45.9V, Vmp 37.7V at 330W |
| 60-cell mono around 300–320W | Monocrystalline | About 1,650 × 990mm | About 18–19.5% |
| TP6H72M-385 | Monocrystalline, 72-cell size | 2,000 × 992mm | Voc 49.0V, Vmp 40.3V |
| BIPRO 380–410W bifacial (incl. the 400W) | Mono PERC, half-cells, double glass | About 1,700–1,760mm long | About 20–21% |
| TP7G72M / TD7G72M-540 | Mono PERC, 144 half-cells, bifacial | 2,285 × 1,134 × 35mm | About 20.9%. Voc 49.6V, Vmp 41.64V, Imp 12.97A, Isc 13.86A |
What to know if you have older Talesun panels:
- They should keep working. The 2010s panels were guaranteed to give at least 80% of their rated power after 25 years. A system fitted in 2012 is about halfway through that.
- The inverter will go first. If generation has stopped, the inverter is the usual culprit, not the panels. A replacement costs £800–£1,500 fitted (inverter replacement, solar panels not working).
- An exact match will be hard to find. If a panel fails, an installer can usually fit a modern panel of similar voltage, or rewire the string, without affecting your Feed-in Tariff payments. Ask before changing anything (solar panel repairs).
- “24V” panels are for off-grid kits. The 72-cell 300–330W panels are often sold second-hand as 24V panels for battery charging. They’re nearly two metres long and too big for most house roofs.
- Adding a battery is often worthwhile. You can add a battery to an older system without touching the panels (adding a battery to existing solar).
- Don’t pay much for second-hand ones. A new 450W panel makes nearly twice the power of a 250W one, with a fresh warranty and paperwork an MCS installer can use.
The 540W panels are commercial, made for solar farms and warehouse roofs. The figures in the table are what an installer needs to design a string, but check the datasheet for your exact panel.
Talesun vs Jinko and Astronergy

| Kiwa PVEL Top Performer | 2023 | Regularly | Nine times to 2025 |
| World ranking by shipments, 2025 | Outside the top ten | Joint 1st | 6th |
| UK availability | Very limited | Almost everywhere | Some retailers and wholesalers |
On the roof, a 450W Talesun, Jinko or Astronergy panel will produce almost exactly the same power. The differences are the product warranty, the testing record and how easy the panel is to buy and replace in the UK. On all three, Jinko and Astronergy come out ahead. If you’re quoted Talesun at a clearly lower price by an installer you trust, it’s a reasonable panel. If the prices are similar, choose one of the others.

Pros
- Modern N-type TOPCon panel at about 22–23% efficiency
- Glass on both sides, all-black finish
- Standard 1,722mm home panel size
- 30-year power guarantee
- On the Tier 1 list in 2025 and 2026

Cons
- 15-year product warranty in most listings, against 25 for rivals
- Very few UK sellers, and no UK office found
- Only one confirmed PVEL Top Performer year (2023)
- Parent company went through a court-supervised restructuring
- Heavier than some rivals at 24.5kg
Verdict: are Talesun solar panels any good?
3.7 / 5. Talesun’s BIPRO TOPCon is a good modern panel from a Tier 1 maker, and its older panels from the 2010s are still working on roofs today. The drawbacks are a shorter product warranty than the big brands, very limited UK availability and a parent company that has only recently come through a restructuring.
If an installer you trust quotes Talesun at a lower price than Jinko, JA or Astronergy, with an insurance-backed workmanship warranty, it’s a reasonable choice. If prices are the same, choose a brand with a 25-year product warranty and wider UK stock. If you already have older Talesun panels, keep them, look after the inverter and consider adding a battery (how to choose a solar installer, solar panel companies UK, are solar panels worth it?).

Talesun solar panels: frequently asked questions
Are Talesun solar panels any good?
Yes, they’re decent. Talesun’s current home panel, the BIPRO TM7G54M, is an N-type TOPCon panel of 430–455W at about 22–23% efficiency, with glass on both sides and a 30-year power guarantee. Talesun is on BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list. Its product warranty is shorter than most rivals, at 15 years in US listings, and it’s hard to buy in the UK, so we rate it 3.7 out of 5.
Who owns Talesun?
Talesun is a subsidiary of Jiangsu Zhongli Group, which is listed in Shenzhen. After a court-supervised restructuring that began in 2023, Zhongli’s controlling shareholder is Changshu Guangsheng New Energy, part of the state-owned Xiamen C&D group, according to a March 2026 financial news report.
Where are Talesun solar panels made?
In China and Thailand. Talesun is based in Changshu, Jiangsu, and has factories in Jiangsu and Shandong provinces. It has also made cells and panels at a plant in Rayong, Thailand, since 2015.
Is Talesun a Tier 1 manufacturer?
Yes. Talesun says it was on BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list for all four quarters of 2025, and it appears at 16th on the third-party copy of the first-quarter 2026 list we checked. Tier 1 measures a maker’s financial standing with banks, not panel quality.
How much do Talesun solar panels cost?
We couldn’t find a current UK price for the home panel in October 2026. In the US, the 445–450W BIPRO is listed at about $173–$204 a panel, but US prices don’t translate to the UK. Mainstream home panels cost UK installers about £70–£120 each, and a fitted 4kW system costs about £5,500–£7,500 with any mainstream panel.
What warranty do Talesun solar panels have?
Most US listings for the BIPRO TM7G54M give a 15-year product warranty and a 30-year power guarantee, with under 1% lost in the first year and under 0.4% a year after. Older Talesun panels from the 2010s had a 10-year product warranty and a 25-year power guarantee to 80%. Ask your installer for the warranty document that applies in the UK.
I have old Talesun 250W panels. Should I replace them?
Usually not. Talesun’s 2010s panels were guaranteed to give at least 80% of their rated power after 25 years, so most still have years left. If generation has stopped, check the inverter first, as it’s the part most likely to fail. If one panel does fail, an installer can usually fit a modern panel of similar voltage. Adding a battery is often a better upgrade than replacing working panels.
What are the specifications of the Talesun 540W panel?
The Talesun TP7G72M or TD7G72M 540W is a commercial bifacial mono PERC panel with 144 half-cells, about 2,285mm by 1,134mm. Listed figures are Voc 49.6V, Vmp 41.64V, Imp 12.97A and Isc 13.86A, at about 20.9% efficiency. It’s too big for most house roofs, so check the datasheet for your exact panel before designing a system.
