Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Going Solar UK (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use our website and request solar quotes through our introduction service. Please read it alongside our Terms & Conditions and Disclaimer.

In short: Going Solar UK is an introduction service. When you request quotes, we share the details you give us with one or more MCS-certified installers so they can contact you about your enquiry. We don’t sell your data for unrelated marketing.

Who we are

Going Solar UK operates goingsolaruk.co.uk and provides a free service that connects homeowners with solar installers. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are a “data controller” in respect of the information described below. You can contact us at info@goingsolaruk.co.uk.

What information we collect

When you complete our quote form or contact us, we may collect:

  • Contact details — your name, email address, and phone number.
  • Enquiry details — information about your property and project, such as the type of service you’re interested in (panels, battery, EV charger, heat pump, or repair), property type, ownership, and your postcode.
  • Technical data — such as your IP address, browser type, and how you use our site, collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below).

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Match you with one or more suitable MCS-certified installers and pass your enquiry to them so they can contact you and provide a quote.
  • Respond to any questions or requests you send us.
  • Operate, maintain, and improve our website and service.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

Our legal basis

We rely on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR:

  • Consent — when you submit the quote form, you agree to your details being shared with installers who will contact you. You can withdraw consent at any time (see “Your rights”).
  • Legitimate interests — to operate our introduction service, respond to enquiries, and improve our site, provided your rights don’t override those interests.
  • Legal obligation — where we’re required to process data to comply with the law.

Who we share your information with

The core of our service is introducing you to installers, so we share your enquiry with them. Specifically, we may share your information with:

  • Solar installers — one or more MCS-certified installers we consider a suitable match for your enquiry. Once we pass your details to an installer, they become responsible for how they use your information, as a separate data controller. We recommend you review the installer’s own privacy policy.
  • Service providers — trusted third parties who help us run our website and service (for example, hosting and email providers), who process data on our behalf.
  • Authorities — where we’re required to disclose information by law.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own unrelated marketing.

Important: Going Solar UK is an introduction service, not an installer. We are not responsible for how installers we introduce you to handle your data or conduct their business. Any contract for work is directly between you and the installer.

How long we keep your information

We keep your enquiry information only for as long as necessary to provide our service, deal with any follow-up, and meet our legal and record-keeping obligations. When it’s no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

Cookies

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, understand how it’s used, and improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how the site functions.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances.
  • Object to or restrict how we use your information.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@goingsolaruk.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date.

Going Solar UK is an introduction service, not an installer. We are not a contractor or supplier and do not design, survey, supply, install, or carry out any solar work. When you submit an enquiry, we pass your details to one or more MCS-certified installers who will contact you about your enquiry, and we may receive a commission for doing so. Any survey, quote, contract, and installation is arranged directly between you and the installer, who is solely responsible for the work they carry out. We recommend you carry out your own checks — including MCS certification, insurance, and reviews — before entering into any contract.
