Axitec Solar Panels Review (2026): Are They Any Good?

Axitec is a German solar brand that has been selling panels since 2001. Its current panels come with one of the longest warranties on the market: 30 years on the product and 30 years on performance. The thing to know is that Axitec designs its panels in Germany but doesn’t make them there. This review covers the Axitec panels you might be offered in the UK, led by the AXIblackbiperfect 460W, plus efficiency, the warranty, where they’re made, the Tier 1 question, known issues, prices, and how Axitec compares with Canadian Solar and Jinko.

The short version: yes, Axitec solar panels are good, with one thing to understand. The current home panels are N-type TOPCon modules of 440–470W at around 23% efficiency, with glass on both sides and a 30-year product warranty and 30-year power guarantee. That warranty is longer than the 25 years most big brands give. The thing to understand is that Axitec is a brand, not a factory. Its panels are designed and checked from Germany and built by contract manufacturers in Asia. For that reason it isn’t on the Tier 1 list, and we found no independent reliability test results for it. It also has little presence in the UK. At a fair price from a solid installer it’s a sound buy, a step behind Jinko, JA Solar and Canadian Solar on evidence and UK support.

Who are Axitec?

Axitec Energy is a solar panel manufacturer in the commercial sense: it designs, specifies, brands and guarantees panels. It was founded in 2001 and is based in Böblingen, near Stuttgart in southern Germany. It has a subsidiary in the United States, set up in 2013, and one in Australia, set up in 2019, and German reviewers say its products are sold in more than 90 countries. It also sells home batteries and EV chargers.

Three things matter for a UK homeowner:

  • It’s a brand without its own factories. German reviewers describe Axitec as an “OEM brand”. The engineering, quality control and warranty handling are done from Germany, and the panels are built to Axitec’s specification by contract manufacturers. Axitec puts its global production capacity at about 2GW a year. Jinko, the largest maker, can produce well over 100GW.
  • It has been around a long time. Twenty-five years is a long life in an industry where many European solar names have closed. A warranty is only worth something if the company is still there to honour it.
  • It has little UK presence. Axitec’s main markets are Germany, the rest of Europe and the United States. We couldn’t find a UK office or a UK retailer selling its panels.

In the UK, Axitec is an occasional sight. Most installers default to JA, Jinko, Trina or Aiko. Axitec turns up mainly with installers who buy from European wholesalers.

Where are Axitec solar panels made?

Mostly in Asia. Axitec itself says its panels are produced “in Asia and Europe”. German reviewers name contract manufacturers in China, Vietnam and India, and one large European wholesaler lists the 460W home panel with China as its country of origin. Some of the large commercial panels are listed as made in the United Arab Emirates.

So Axitec is a German brand, but its panels are not “made in Germany”. That isn’t a criticism. Almost every mainstream panel fitted in the UK is made in Asia. It does mean you shouldn’t pay a premium for the German name alone. What matters is the warranty, the testing and who stands behind it (best solar panels UK).

If you see “Axitec Solar India”, that’s the company’s Indian arm, which sells and sources panels for that market.

For a house, you want one of the glass-on-both-sides N-type panels in the first four rows. N-type cells are more efficient, cope better with heat and age more slowly than the older PERC cells. They also carry the 30-year warranty. If you’re quoted an AXIpremium or AXIblackpremium panel in 2026, it’s older technology with a shorter warranty and should be priced accordingly (types of solar panels).

Axitec names and model codes decoded

Axitec’s names are a mouthful, but they follow a pattern. As far as we can tell from the datasheets:

  • AXI starts every product name. black means a black frame and a dark look. bi means bifacial, with glass on both sides. perfect is the current N-type range, and premium and power are the older ones.
  • In a code such as AC-460TGBL/108BB, AC is Axitec’s prefix, 460 is the power in watts, T marks a TOPCon panel, and 108 is the number of half-cells.
  • In an older code such as AC-250P/156-60S, P means polycrystalline, 156 is the cell size in millimetres and 60 is the number of cells. An M in that position means monocrystalline.

Axitec 460W solar panel: a closer look

The all-black AXIblackbiperfect GL is the Axitec panel most likely to appear on a home quote. These figures are for the 460W version, as listed by a large European wholesaler:

Power guarantee30 years, to 87.4%

Two points on the build. Bifacial means the back of the panel can also generate from reflected light. On a house roof, where the panel sits a few centimetres above the tiles, that adds next to nothing, so don’t pay extra for it. The real benefit is the second sheet of glass, which protects the cells better than a plastic backsheet and is the reason Axitec can offer 30 years. The cost is weight. At 25kg, this panel is about 4kg heavier than a single-glass panel of similar size. That’s fine for a normal roof, but worth knowing (panel types compared, solar panel maintenance).

It’s also 40mm longer than the most common home panel size, at 1,762mm against 1,722mm. On a tight roof that can decide whether an extra panel fits, so have the layout drawn with the exact model. Axitec publishes a datasheet for each solar panel, and your installer should give you the one for the panel on your quote (solar panel sizes).

Axitec solar panel efficiency and real-world UK output

Axitec’s current home panels run from about 22% efficiency at 440W to 23.5% at 470W. That’s at the upper end of the mainstream, and a step behind the very best panels at about 24–25% (most efficient solar panels). The temperature coefficient is -0.31% per °C, which is good. It means the panel loses less output on a hot roof than older PERC panels did.

In practice, one 460W Axitec panel on a south-facing UK roof generates roughly 420–470kWh a year depending on where you live. Nine of them make a 4.1kW system producing about 3,750–4,250kWh a year, worth roughly £720–£810 a year at October 2026 electricity prices if you use half of it at home. You’d get almost exactly the same from a Jinko, JA or Canadian Solar panel of the same wattage. At this level, the differences between brands are in the warranty and the company, not the output. See solar panel efficiency, solar panel output and solar panel payback.

Who you claim from in the UKYour installer, then Axitec in GermanyYour installer, backed by a UK or European office

Thirty years on the product is Axitec’s strongest selling point. It’s five years longer than most of the big names give as standard. The warranty is handled from Germany, which is closer to home than most, in a legal system UK buyers can at least recognise.

Two cautions. First, a warranty is a promise from a company, and Axitec is a mid-sized firm that doesn’t own its factories. It has lasted 25 years, which counts for a lot, but it’s a smaller name to rely on for 30 more than Jinko or Canadian Solar. Second, make sure the panel on your quote is one of the glass-glass models. The older ranges carry 15 years, not 30. To protect yourself:

  • Choose an installer that has traded for several years and is MCS-certified.
  • Make sure the workmanship guarantee is insurance-backed, so it survives if the installer doesn’t.
  • Keep the datasheet, the warranty document and the panel serial numbers with your handover pack.
  • Remember that panels rarely fail. The inverter is far more likely to need attention (how long inverters last, solar inverters explained).

Are Axitec solar panels Tier 1? Test results and ranking

Tier 1

No. Tier 1 is BloombergNEF’s list of panel makers whose products banks are willing to finance on large projects. Axitec wasn’t on the published copies of the list for the second or third quarter of 2026 that we checked. German reviewers put this down to the way the list works: it’s built around companies that own their factories, and Axitec doesn’t.

Tier 1 measures financial standing on big projects, not the quality of a panel on your roof. Plenty of good panels aren’t on it. But it’s one piece of evidence the big brands have and Axitec doesn’t.

Independent testing

We found no results for Axitec in Kiwa PVEL’s reliability scorecard, the best-known independent stress test for panels. Its panels hold the standard TÜV and IEC certificates that every panel sold in Europe needs, and Axitec has won EUPD Research’s “Top Brand PV” award, which is based on surveys of installers. That’s a measure of reputation in the trade, not a laboratory test.

Where Axitec ranks

By size, Axitec is a small player. On specification and warranty, its current panels sit comfortably in the mainstream. In our own rankings it comes below the big four and level with other value brands, held back by the lack of independent test data and UK support, not by the panel. See best solar panels UK for the full list.

Axitec solar issues: what’s been reported

People search for problems with Axitec, so here’s what we found. There are two reports worth knowing about, and neither concerns the current panels.

  • Australia, 2017. In August 2017 the Clean Energy Council, which approves panels for use in Australia, removed all Axitec panels from its approved list. According to the Australian site SolarQuotes, the council’s reasons included panels made before the date on their certificate, a power rating below the stated minimum, and problems with the paperwork. SolarQuotes says the issues were later resolved, and that about a dozen Axitec models are approved in Australia today.
  • A slow warranty claim in Germany. One German review site describes a case where 3 of 34 older AXIpremium panels were producing 4–12% less than they should, and the owner found the warranty process slow to begin with.

To keep that in proportion: the first was nine years ago and was put right, and the second is a single case. The same German reviewers say they found no pattern of defects in the current glass-glass panels. Every panel maker has a few stories like these. They’re a reason to keep your paperwork and choose a good installer, not a reason to rule the brand out.

Axitec solar panel prices in the UK

We couldn’t find Axitec solar panels for sale from a UK retailer when we checked in October 2026, so there’s no UK shelf price to quote. In Germany, where the brand is widely sold, reviewers put the price at:

  • About €85 for a 445W home panel in online shops in August 2026, which is roughly £72.
  • €0.17–€0.23 per watt at wholesale, or about €80–€100 for a 450W panel.

That puts Axitec in line with the mainstream. Panels from Jinko, JA and Trina typically cost UK installers £70–£120 each. German reviewers describe Axitec as a little cheaper than the premium brands and a little dearer than budget imports.

If you want Axitec in the UK, the practical route is an installer who buys from a European wholesaler. German reviewers name Krannich Solar as Axitec’s main distribution partner in Europe. We couldn’t find an Axitec solar distributor based in the UK.

Keep any saving in proportion. Panels are only about a sixth of the cost of a fitted system. What you’ll pay for a complete installation is much the same whichever mainstream panel goes on the roof:

SystemPanels (460W)Typical fitted priceWith a 5kWh battery
3kW7£4,500–£6,000£7,500–£9,500
4kW9£5,500–£7,500£9,000–£11,500
5kW11£6,500–£8,500—
6kW13£7,000–£9,500—

A quote using Axitec panels should sit in the middle of those ranges. Prices include fitting, scaffolding, the inverter and 0% VAT, which applies until 31 March 2027 (VAT on solar panels). For the full breakdown, see solar panel cost, the 4kW solar system guide and 4kW solar with a battery.

Axitec vs Canadian Solar comes down to paper against evidence. Axitec’s warranty is five years longer on paper. Canadian Solar has its own factories, a place on the Tier 1 list, a long run of independent test results and panels in every UK wholesaler. On the roof, you wouldn’t notice a difference in output between two panels of the same wattage. If the prices are close, we’d take Canadian Solar or Jinko for the stronger evidence. If Axitec is a few hundred pounds cheaper and you value the 30-year product warranty, it’s a fair choice.

Older Axitec panels: 250W to 550W

Axitec has been selling panels since 2001, so plenty of older ones are still working. If you’ve bought a house with them, or you’re looking at old stock, this is roughly what the common ones are. Sizes and efficiencies are typical for panels of that type and age.

Three things to know about older Axitec panels:

  • The warranty is shorter. Panels with a plastic backsheet carry 15 years on the product, not 30. One German reviewer says panels sold before the present company was registered in 2015 are dealt with on a goodwill basis.
  • An exact match will be hard to find. If one fails, an installer can usually fit a modern panel of a similar size and voltage, or rewire the string (solar panel repairs).
  • The 550W is a commercial panel. At well over two metres long, it’s too big for most house roofs.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 30-year product warranty and 30-year power guarantee
  • N-type TOPCon at about 23% efficiency
  • Glass on both sides, with an all-black option
  • German company, trading since 2001
  • Warranty handled from Germany
  • Priced in line with the mainstream

Cons

  • Doesn’t own its factories
  • Not on the Tier 1 lists we checked for 2026
  • No independent reliability test results that we could find
  • No UK office, distributor or retailer that we could find
  • Heavier than single-glass panels, at 25kg
  • Older ranges have a 15-year warranty, not 30

Verdict: are Axitec solar panels good?

3.8 / 5. Axitec’s current panels are good, modern and well specified, and the 30-year product warranty is better than most rivals offer. Behind it is a German company that has been trading for 25 years. If a trusted installer quotes Axitec at a fair price, you can say yes.

It scores below Jinko, JA Solar and Canadian Solar because there’s less independent evidence behind it. It doesn’t make its own panels, it isn’t on the Tier 1 list, we found no reliability test results, and it has almost no presence in the UK. So check you’re getting a glass-glass model with the 30-year warranty, don’t pay extra for the German name, and choose the installer with as much care as the panel (how to choose a solar installer, solar panel companies UK, are solar panels worth it?).

Axitec solar panels: frequently asked questions

Are Axitec solar panels good?

Yes. Axitec’s current home panels are N-type TOPCon modules of 440–470W at around 23% efficiency, with glass on both sides and a 30-year product warranty and 30-year power guarantee. The drawbacks are that Axitec doesn’t own its factories, isn’t on the Tier 1 list, has no independent reliability results that we could find, and has little UK presence. We rate it 3.8 out of 5.

Where are Axitec solar panels made?

Mostly in Asia. Axitec Energy is a German company, founded in 2001 and based in Böblingen near Stuttgart, but it doesn’t own factories. Its panels are designed and quality-checked from Germany and built by contract manufacturers. German reviewers name China, Vietnam and India, and one European wholesaler lists the 460W home panel as made in China.

Are Axitec solar panels Tier 1?

No. Axitec was not on the published copies of BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list for the second or third quarter of 2026 that we checked. German reviewers say this is because the list is built around companies that own their factories. Tier 1 measures how willing banks are to finance a maker’s panels on large projects, not how good the panels are.

What warranty do Axitec solar panels have?

Axitec’s current glass-glass panels carry a 30-year product warranty and a 30-year power guarantee, with no more than 1% of output lost in the first year and 0.4% a year after that, leaving 87.4% at year 30. Older Axitec panels with a plastic backsheet carry 15 years on the product and 25 years on power. Check which applies to the panel on your quote.

How much do Axitec solar panels cost?

We couldn’t find a UK retail price in October 2026. In Germany, a 445W Axitec home panel cost about €85 in online shops in August 2026, and wholesale prices were €0.17–€0.23 per watt. A fitted 4kW system in the UK costs about £5,500–£7,500 with any mainstream panel, and an Axitec quote should sit in the middle of that range.

Have there been problems with Axitec solar panels?

Two reports are worth knowing. In 2017 Australia’s Clean Energy Council removed Axitec panels from its approved list over certification and paperwork issues, which the Australian site SolarQuotes says were later resolved. And one German review site describes a slow warranty claim on a few older panels. We found no pattern of defects reported in the current glass-glass range.

Axitec vs Canadian Solar: which is better?

They perform almost identically at the same wattage. Axitec gives a 30-year product warranty against the usual 25 from Canadian Solar. Canadian Solar owns its factories, is on the Tier 1 list, has a long record in independent testing and is widely stocked in the UK. If prices are close, we’d choose Canadian Solar. If Axitec is clearly cheaper, it’s a fair choice.

Going Solar UK is an introduction service, not an installer, and has no connection with Axitec or Krannich Solar. Company details are from Axitec’s website, its trade-show listings and German trade reviews published in 2026, checked in October 2026. Specifications are from Axitec datasheets and from listings by European wholesalers. Manufacturing locations are as stated by Axitec, by German review sites and on one wholesaler’s listing, and may vary by model. Tier 1 status is from a third-party copy of the BloombergNEF lists for the second and third quarters of 2026. The Australian delisting and its resolution are as reported by SolarQuotes. The warranty claim is as described by one German review site and has not been verified by us. German prices are from review sites in August 2026, converted at about £0.85 to the euro. Figures for older panels are typical for their type and are not taken from individual datasheets. Competitor figures are typical for current ranges. Installed prices are typical 2026 UK estimates. The rating is our opinion. If anything here is inaccurate or out of date, contact us and we will correct it. Always confirm the exact model, datasheet and warranty with an MCS-certified installer.
