BOXT Solar Panels Review (2026): Price, Wait Times & Verdict

BOXT made its name selling boilers online at a fixed price, and it now does the same for solar panels, batteries and, since 2026, Tesla’s UK solar bundle. This review covers what BOXT charges, the kit it fits (Aiko panels, Sunsynk or Tesla Powerwall 3), how long you’ll wait, the two-year workmanship guarantee, finance, what reviewers and customers report, and how BOXT compares with E.ON, OVO, EDF and a local MCS installer.

The short version: BOXT sells solar online at a fixed price, from £3,999 for a small panels-only system. It fits premium Aiko back-contact panels (~24% efficient) with either a Sunsynk hybrid battery system or a Tesla Powerwall 3, which it fits for £7,499 on its own. It’s also Tesla’s installer for the 8-panel-plus-Powerwall bundle offered to Tesla drivers (£11,299 over four years at 0%). Quotes take minutes, installs usually happen within a few weeks and take two days, and BOXT has an excellent overall Trustpilot record. The weak spots are a two-year workmanship guarantee (a good local installer gives ten), no flat roofs, little choice of kit and no export tariff of its own. BOXT is a good fit for a simple pitched roof if you want a fixed online price and premium panels. Check it against a local MCS quote before you pay. Below: prices, the kit, wait times, warranty, BOXT vs the rest.

How BOXT’s solar offer works

BOXT was founded in Leeds in 2017 by Mel Butler, Andy Kerr and Keith Jones to sell boilers online at a fixed, all-in price. It grew into one of Britain’s biggest boiler installers, raised £20 million from Brookfield Infrastructure in 2022, and has since added heat pumps, air conditioning, EV chargers, solar panels and home batteries. Solar follows the same model:

  • Online fixed price. You answer questions about your home and roof, and BOXT’s tool builds a system and a price in minutes, including scaffolding and bird protection.
  • A fixed menu of kit. Aiko panels, then a Sunsynk hybrid inverter and battery, or a Tesla Powerwall 3. You choose the number of panels and the battery. You don’t choose the brands.
  • BOXT installs. It fits under its own brand as an MCS-certified, TrustMark-registered installer, and handles the G98 or G99 grid paperwork.
  • Pitched roofs only. BOXT doesn’t fit panels on flat roofs.

That’s a real contrast with the energy suppliers. E.ON, OVO and EDF tie their solar to their own export tariffs, and British Gas/Hive relied on partner firms. BOXT is an installer first, closer to Octopus, which also installs under its own name, but without the energy supply.

The bottom line: BOXT pairs some of the best panels on the market with the easiest way to buy them. That’s held back by a two-year workmanship guarantee, a fixed kit menu and no flat roofs. It’s good for a simple pitched roof, but check it against a local quote.

BOXT solar panel prices (2026)

BOXT’s price depends on your roof and the options you pick. These are the published and reported figures we could verify for 2026, all with 0% VAT:

BOXT systemPriceWhat’s includedCompare
Solar panels only (entry)From £3,999Small Aiko array, inverter, scaffolding, bird protectionNational 3kW: £4,500–£6,000
5 Aiko panels, no battery£4,699 (Feb 2026)Scaffolding, installation, bird protection, with a “buy one get one free” panel offer runningPricey per kW for a small system
Tesla Powerwall 3 only£7,499 installed13.5kWh battery with built-in inverterElsewhere £7,400–£9,900
8 panels + Powerwall 3 (Tesla owners)£11,299£1,747 deposit + £199/month × 48 at 0%Good value for the kit

What this tells you: BOXT is competitive on the Powerwall 3 and on bigger solar-plus-battery systems, where its price sits at the low end of the market for premium kit. It’s less sharp on small panels-only systems, where scaffolding and fixed costs are spread over only a few panels. For a typical 9–10 panel system, expect BOXT to land around the national range of £5,500–£7,500, sometimes above, because Aiko panels cost more than mainstream brands. The online price is fixed, so it’s easy to put next to a local quote for the same size system. National context: solar panel cost UK and 4kW solar systems.

What panels, inverter and batteries BOXT fits

BOXT’s kit list is short, and all of it is good:

  • Panels: Aiko back-contact (ABC). These are all-black panels of around 460–475W at roughly 24% efficiency, with a 30-year product and performance guarantee. Aiko’s back-contact cells are among the most efficient on sale and handle partial shade better than standard panels, which makes them ideal for small or awkward roofs. See our Aiko review.
  • Inverter and battery option 1: Sunsynk. A Sunsynk hybrid inverter (3.6kW on smaller systems) with Sunsynk battery modules of about 5.3kWh each, stackable to around 16kWh. Monitoring is through the Sunsynk Connect app. See the Sunsynk review.
  • Battery option 2: Tesla Powerwall 3. 13.5kWh usable, with a built-in solar inverter and a 10-year warranty. An optional Backup Gateway lets it run the house in a power cut. See the Tesla and Powerwall 3 review.

The upside is that there’s no weak link and no unbranded “Tier 1 equivalent” panel. The downside is no choice: if you want a different panel brand, a Fox ESS or other battery, micro-inverters or a bigger inverter for a large array, BOXT isn’t set up for it. On a big roof, a 3.6kW inverter can also cap output on sunny days (hybrid inverters explained).

BOXT and Tesla: the Powerwall 3 bundle

People search for “Tesla solar panels BOXT” because in May 2026 Tesla launched a UK home-energy bundle for Tesla car owners, installed by BOXT. It includes 8 solar panels and a Powerwall 3 for a £1,747 deposit and £199 a month over 48 months at 0% (£11,299 in total). Tesla doesn’t make or sell solar panels in the UK, so the panels are BOXT’s own Aiko panels, not “Tesla panels”. The bundle is aimed at Tesla drivers, and anyone else can buy the same kind of system from BOXT directly. With “Charge on Solar”, a Tesla car soaks up your surplus rather than exporting it, which is a strong combination if you already drive one. See solar and EVs and are solar batteries worth it.

Wait times and the installation

  • Quote: minutes, online.
  • Booking: an install slot is usually available within a few weeks.
  • Grid approval: most small solar-only systems connect under a G98 notification with no wait. A Powerwall 3 or a larger system needs a G99 application to your network operator first, which can add several weeks, and BOXT handles it.
  • Install: typically two days (three for complex jobs). That covers scaffolding, fitting, testing, a walkthrough of the system, clean-up and BOXT’s own quality audit.

Allow roughly a month from order for a simple panels-only system, and longer if a G99 approval or a busy spring and summer diary gets in the way. That’s comparable with a good local installer and quicker than some energy-supplier schemes. See how long solar installation takes and what happens on the day.

The workmanship guarantee is BOXT’s weakest point. It covers the installation itself: roof penetrations, leaks, fixings, wiring and anything the installer did wrong. Two years matches E.ON but is well short of the ten years offered by OVO and most good local installers. Roof leaks from a poorly sealed fixing can take more than two winters to show. BOXT is a large, well-funded business, and its panel and battery warranties are strong, but ask whether it offers any extended or insurance-backed workmanship cover before you sign. See solar panel warranties explained.

Export tariffs: BOXT doesn’t have one

BOXT isn’t an energy supplier, so there’s no BOXT export tariff. That cuts both ways. You don’t get an exclusive rate like OVO’s 20p (for its own customers with a solar-and-battery install) or E.ON’s 17.5p. But you’re free to pick any Smart Export Guarantee tariff, and with a battery you can pair a time-of-use import tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go with the best export rate on the market. Once your system is connected, register with an SEG supplier. You need the MCS certificate BOXT provides. See SEG tariffs compared.

Finance and paying

BOXT offers 0% APR over up to 24 months, longer loans of up to 180 monthly payments at 9.9% APR, and a “buy now, pay nothing for six months” option. You can also pay outright by card or bank transfer. Tesla owners can get the 48-month 0% bundle. The 0% options are good value. The long loans are expensive: £7,000 at 9.9% over 15 years is about £73 a month, but around £13,100 in total, nearly double the price. If you’ll borrow, compare against a green mortgage add-on or a cheaper solar loan, and pay any deposit by credit card for Section 75 protection.

BOXT solar reviews: what customers report

BOXT has one of the strongest review records of any UK home-energy company. It reports more than 45,000 five-star Trustpilot reviews, with 94% of all its reviews at five stars. Most of those are for boilers, though, and solar is a newer, smaller part of the business. A detailed independent review of a BOXT solar install in early 2026 praised the panel quality and the professionalism of the fitters. It also reported having to chase confirmation of the final panel count, delays arranging collection of spare kit, and inaccurate data in the Sunsynk app that needed a firmware update and a technician visit to fix. Common themes in solar feedback are:

  • A smooth, fast online buying process
  • Tidy, professional installers
  • Occasional communication gaps between sale and install
  • Little flexibility once your roof falls outside the standard menu

BOXT offers and promo codes

BOXT runs regular promotions on solar, including “buy one panel, get one free” and free panel upgrades (a 460W to 475W upgrade was running in early 2026). Voucher-site “promo codes” come and go. Whatever the offer, judge the final price per kW installed and the warranty, not the size of the discount, because a free panel on a system that costs £1,000 more than a local quote isn’t a saving. See how to spot solar sales tricks.

BOXT and E.ON sell very similar kit. E.ON adds a strong export rate if you’re its customer, and BOXT leaves you free to choose your tariff. OVO wins on workmanship cover. A good local installer wins on flexibility (including flat roofs, which BOXT won’t do), workmanship guarantee and usually price on mid-sized systems. Full rundown: solar panel companies UK compared.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Premium, named kit: Aiko back-contact panels with Sunsynk or Tesla Powerwall 3
  • Fixed price online in minutes, including scaffolding and bird protection
  • Competitive Powerwall 3 price (£7,499 installed)
  • Fast booking and a two-day install
  • Excellent overall Trustpilot record and HIES deposit protection
  • 0% finance up to 24 months, and free to choose any export tariff

Cons

  • Only a two-year workmanship guarantee, where local installers give ten
  • No flat roofs and no choice of panel, inverter or battery brand
  • Small panels-only systems are pricey per kW
  • No exclusive export rate like OVO, E.ON or EDF
  • Long finance at 9.9% APR nearly doubles the cost
  • Some reports of communication gaps between sale and install

Verdict: who should buy solar panels from BOXT

4.0 / 5. BOXT is one of the easiest ways to buy premium solar in the UK, with Aiko panels, a Sunsynk or Tesla battery and a fixed price online, backed by an excellent review record. It’s a strong choice if you have a straightforward pitched roof, want a Powerwall 3 at a keen price, drive a Tesla, or value speed and a fixed price over flexibility.

It’s a weaker choice if you have a flat or complicated roof, want a particular brand of battery or inverter, or care about long workmanship cover, because two years is short for something bolted to your roof for 25. The sensible move is to get BOXT’s online price, then get one local MCS quote for the same size system with a ten-year workmanship guarantee, and pick the better package.

BOXT solar panels: frequently asked questions

Are BOXT solar panels any good?

Yes, the kit is excellent. BOXT fits Aiko back-contact panels at around 24% efficiency with a 30-year warranty, paired with a Sunsynk hybrid battery system or a Tesla Powerwall 3, and it has a strong overall Trustpilot record. The weaker points are the service terms: a two-year workmanship guarantee, no flat roofs and no choice of brands. It’s a good option for a straightforward pitched roof, but worth comparing with a local MCS installer who offers ten years’ workmanship cover.

How much do BOXT solar panels cost?

BOXT’s solar prices start from £3,999 for a small panels-only system, and a 5-panel system was £4,699 in February 2026 including scaffolding and bird protection. A Tesla Powerwall 3 costs £7,499 installed on its own, and BOXT’s Tesla-owner bundle of 8 panels plus a Powerwall 3 costs £11,299 over four years at 0%. A typical 9–10 panel system lands around the national £5,500–£7,500 range, sometimes above because Aiko panels are a premium brand.

What panels and batteries does BOXT use?

BOXT fits Aiko all-black back-contact solar panels of around 460–475W. For batteries it offers either a Sunsynk hybrid inverter with stackable Sunsynk battery modules of about 5.3kWh each, or a Tesla Powerwall 3 with 13.5kWh of usable storage and a built-in inverter. You choose the number of panels and the battery, but not the brands.

How long does BOXT take to install solar panels?

BOXT’s online quote takes minutes, an installation slot is usually available within a few weeks, and the installation itself typically takes two days, or three for complex systems. A Powerwall 3 or larger system needs G99 approval from your network operator before connection, which can add several weeks. Allow around a month from order for a simple system and longer for battery systems.

What warranty does BOXT give on solar panels?

BOXT’s Aiko panels carry a 30-year product and performance guarantee, and its batteries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. BOXT’s own workmanship guarantee on the installation is two years, with HIES deposit protection. That’s the same as E.ON but shorter than the ten years offered by OVO and most good local installers, so ask about extended workmanship cover before you sign.

Does BOXT install Tesla solar panels?

Tesla doesn’t sell solar panels in the UK, so neither BOXT nor anyone else installs Tesla panels here. BOXT is Tesla’s installer for a UK bundle launched in 2026 for Tesla car owners, which pairs 8 of BOXT’s Aiko panels with a Tesla Powerwall 3 for £1,747 down and £199 a month over 48 months at 0%. BOXT also fits the Powerwall 3 on its own for £7,499.

Prices, offers, kit and finance terms are as published by BOXT and reported by independent reviewers and Tesla-focused press in 2026, and change frequently. Always check BOXT’s current online price and terms. Review figures are BOXT’s own published Trustpilot statistics. Comparison figures for E.ON, OVO and EDF are from our separate reviews and may have changed. The finance example is illustrative. Going Solar UK is independent of BOXT and is paid by installers in our own network, not by BOXT or any energy supplier. 0% VAT on residential solar and batteries applies until 31 March 2027 per HMRC. Always compare quotes from MCS-certified installers.
